What is Search Engine Optimization?
Tuning a website to be spidered more effectively. "Spidered" is the term used to describe how a search engine "sees" your site. Google for instance, uses a program that constantly surfs the web, analyzing websites for content, functionality and other factors that help them determine how the sites will show up in their search results. Google, as well as all other search engines, are very protective about what exactly they look for, but there are some basic design elements that many sites overlook...Proper Coding and Effective Use of Keywords.
How is SEO accomplished?
By magic! Ok, not really. It's a combination of correctly coding the HTML of the site and stratigically using keywords. Each page of your website must be treated as its own entity. Keyword research is done on each page's subject matter and relavance. The coding is corrected and/or modified to represent the page better. Most often, the look of the page will not be affected at all.
Beware, there are lots and lots of gimmicks out there on the internet, touting anything from "cornering the market" on some keywords or using link farms to gain more links pointing to your site. Don't fall for the trickery. It's a good "old fashion" well designed site that is most effective. You must first start with a quality site of you own.
